Can you tell me what the following numbers are?
1776-1851 1825-1877 1962- 2009
They are life spans. There’s a born-on date and a dead?on date. We have very little control over either one of those, but what we do have control over is what we do with the time in between. It’s called the “dash”. It’s everything that happens from the second you are born to the moment you die. The question I would like you to marinate on is, how are you spending your dash?
The “dash” is all you have to leave behind when you are done with your time on earth. Are you making a difference in the lives of the people who mean the most to you? Do you wish you had more control over your life than you do today? We often get so caught up with our day-to-day job that we completely forget about the things that are REALLY important……like our dash!
Another way of describing the “in-between” segment of your life is the “gap.” Here’s where you are, and there’s where you want to be, and then there’s the “gap.” We need to learn to LOVE the gap, because that’s where most of our life is lived?in a state of change.
What drives you to get out of bed every morning? Is it the drive to be a good parent, a great friend, a caring and compassionate human being, a renowned photographer? We all want to be better at what we do and who we are. Yet success, or perhaps I should say happiness, eludes most people in this world. We all need something to strive for, to work towards, and dream about………it’s our dash!
Want to figure out how to get better control over your business and marketing efforts so you can raise the bar on the quality of your “dash”? Join Mitche for his workshop at Summer School on August 19! See you in Vegas!

How did you live your dash?
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning…to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years. (1934 -1998)
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth…
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars…the house…the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard…
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile…
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy’s being read
With your life’s actions to rehash…
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?
