Guest Post: Window Lighting Tip from Ken Sklute
Follow the light and Ken Sklute’s vision…
For years I have found that window light is absolutely one of the easiest types of lights to find on a hectic wedding day. I love to illustrate depth and dimension. It is one of the most comfortable types of light for your clients, as there are very few distractions to make them uncomfortable. It is nice to be able to see what you get as you are looking for the right light. Not all windows yield beautiful, dimensional, directional light. There are many factors that can take away from the soft beauty. (We will discuss those details at length in my “It’s all in the Light” lecture at Skip’s Summer School at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in August.)

There are two windows used here to illuminate the Bride and her lovely gown. The main source of light comes from the window just in front of the Bride. The fill light is coming in from a window just behind her, outlining her body with a rim of light. It gently creates a beautiful pattern of light on her face, making her face the brightest point in the image. This image was meticulously arranged so that the light could work its magic and carve the body of the Bride to be easily seen. This image was captured with a Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS L lens in order to provide a very narrow angle of view, eliminating anything that could distract from this beautiful girl.
Come learn how to create images like this effortlessly and consistently. See you at Skip’s Summer School in Las Vegas!
