Just for the fun of it, allow yourself to be inspired to do something really simple. Just the basics, no special effects, just good lighting, good subject, create a great composition and capture an expression that tells a story. It sounds complicated, but it really isn’t. Getting back to the basics taps into who we really are.

Simplicity will keep you sane. It will help you to stay focused on creating the best portraits you can by simply paying attention to your subjects and forget about all the different effects you can use to make your image look different. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to be different, but let’s start with a good strong image first and see what happens. Post production work may help to improve an image, but it certainly won’t give it life. Simply telling a story will, making your clients smile for years and years.
Capturing a moment and creating memories is where we should be right now. The importance of a good image combined with good service is the key to good business. Simple? It can be. If you listen to what your clients say about the images you’ve created for them … you may hear them tell a story about the session itself. The wonderful time they had while working with you and how that is a part of their history now, as well as the portrait that was created as a result of that experience. This is what they will tell their friends when they refer you to someone they care about. It will also remind you how important your presence is in their lives, you know, the clients you have for life that you are lucky enough to have…
