Sunday Morning Reflections: The Value of Photographs

The Gardens of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo – S. Cohen
In the process of moving, the items having the most value to me are all my photographs. I’m not just talking about the prints that are hanging on the walls, but the boxes of photographs, the disks of images and the albums of memories. They’ll be moved with the utmost care. As I go through this process, I can’t help but wonder how everyone needs to be reminded of the importance photography means to your clients!
As professional photographers your job is capturing memories and giving them immortality. Just like the albums I keep stopping to look at, they represent moments in time, gone forever, but continuing to live on in front of me on the printed page. So, I’ve got to say it one more time…
With the exception of modern medicine, no career field has given society more than we have in the photographic industry. We’ve catpured the joys, the pain, the injustice and the celebration of humanity. It doesn’t matter whether you’re building the camera, clicking the shutter, writing the software to download the images or printing the images themselves - we have an incredible responsibility in the trust the world puts on us.
We’re all part of an amazing industry and if you’re not having the time of your life, then let’s help you figure out what you’re doing wrong!
