Sunday Morning Reflections: Are Your Ready?
Sunday morning is always a time to keep it light and short…
I found a great quote this morning from Winston Churchill:
“To every man there comes in his lifetime that special moment when he is tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing. What a tragedy if that moment finds him unprepared or unqualified for the work which would be his finest hour.”
Okay, so it’s a little dated with the “man” thing – but that doesn’t change the power of the concept. At some point you’re going to be asked to shoot that one special job you’ve been dreaming about – are you ready? Some where down the line you might have an opportunity to work with one of the icons you admire the most – are your skills up to par? Maybe your lab, a manufacturer or your album or frame company are going to see your work and like it so much, they’re going to ask you to consider teaching a class – are you ready to share the techniques that are starting to put you on the map?
While so many accomplishments in photography are about skills and technique, a lot are about great timing. You can’t plan that last minute request. You can’t go off in search of the ideal project to get your name out there. Things just happen and suddenly you find yourself living not only the dream, but having to walk the talk.
It’s a silly trite and simple concept – always be ready! Always have the camera ready to go, but more important than having your camera charged is making sure your spirit and love for the craft are fully charged!
Make it a great day, enjoy the family and get off the computer!
