In keeping with a common theme this week, I’m having some fun with quick profiles of this year’s Skip’s Summer School instructors.   In alphabetical order here comes Tony Corbell.  Whether you can join us or not, make it a point to follow these industry icons – they’ve all got something to say, something to teach and something everybody can learn!  They’re the best of the best and we’re excited to have them be part of Summer School!

Tony Corbell:  I guess instead of saying why Tony was chosen as an instructor this year, I should really be saying how could anybody have a workshop without this guy?  There are few instructors in our industry with Tony’s depth of experience in commercial work, weddings, portraits, table top, photojournalism and even fine art.   His passion though is lighting and with so many new photographers taking the wrong shortcut, I’ll-fix-it-in-Photoshop-later, understanding lighting is more important than ever.

Tony had a great idea he wanted to try at this year’s Summer School and it’s already getting incredible reviews and we haven’t even done it yet!  Together with Bobbi Lane, they’ll be running the Lighting Lab.  No structure, no real format, just a great room with a few lighting setups and models.  Attendees will be able to get very specific help throughout both full days of Summer School at any time from 9:00 – 12:00pm and 2:00 – 5:00 pm from both Tony and Bobbi.

The best part of Tony’s concept is that it utilizes one of his very best skills, teaching!  Everybody has something they do really well, but when it’s not just something you understand, but a passion, then you do it even better.  And, nobody does it better than Tony!

Want to learn more about Tony?  Check out the images and material on his website at Corbell Productions, you’ll find him on Facebook too.  And here’s a fun piece I found on YouTube of Tony demonstrating portraiture with just one light…but there’s a secondary fun component here – Tony’s worked hard over the past year to drop a ton of weight since this video was created and is officially back to his old fighting weight!

Tomorrow we’ll give you some background on Kay Eskridge and all her links, so you can add her to your list of icons you should know!
