Thoughts on GoingPro

It’s Saturday and for me, definitely a day to work on another chapter of GoingPro with the manuscript due in NY in mid July. As I was working last night I’m wondering how many of you have had a chance to check it out. Last week we announced the blog has crossed the quarter million mark in page views in essentially just two months and almost 102,000 downloads of the podcasts for just the month of May alone!
The GoingPro concept, which was started by my buddy Scott Bourne and me is meant to help photographers just starting out work through the challenges of a new business in photography. It is meant to help “newbies” raise the bar, realize the value of what they’re providing and the importance of delivering an outstanding product every time, regardless of their photographic specialty.
However, what’s actually happened is that photographers, many who have been established for years are finding the information in the blog valuable and are reassessing their business models and their goals. We’re now finding just as many established pros as we are rookies.
The growth of the GoingPro concept and the information we want to keep providing is very much influenced by you. We want to be able to answer the majority of your questions and talk about the issues keeping you up at night. So, if you’ve got a special request, now is the time to let us know. You never know – it just might wind up as a blog topic, a podcast or even a webinar!
As always, thanks for being such a big part of everything that makes this industry so terrific!

I think it is awesome, I am right at the beginning of going pro and am listening to the podcasts and making my way through all the fantastic information you provide. So, so useful. I keep sharing it with everyone too!
Thanks a lot for putting so much effort in.

Hi guys. I’ve been keeping up with goingpro since it started and Its awesome!
Its a lot of information, great information and it helps a lot. I’m just in the planning stages of my photographic business. I have a day job and I’m just working on getting it right. I’ve been in other businesses before and have learned a lot from total failure (business wise not lessons wise) and have been learning photography for over a year now from many great photographers willing to share their knowledge online.
I think a great suggestion would be to have Kevin Swan on your show. He’s a little controversial in his approach but I think he’s dead on in how he markets a business. He’s got great ideas and the fruit on the tree to back them up.
I believe your fans could gain a lot from an interview with him.
Thanks

Hi Skip! I love the podcasts. They’re fantastic. I primarily do children and family portraits. My question is: How do I break into the wedding business? I can’t imagine that a bride would want to hire me for her special day with little to no wedding experience. I don’t have any friends who are engaged who I can use as guinea pigs. What do you suggest I do?

It’s never too late to look back at the fundamentals. Thanks for the resources!
