Life is short….
Okay, so somebody help me out here…I got an indignant email from a person I didn’t “friend” the other day on Facebook. They were “disappointed” I didn’t allow them in my Facebook “family”. I didn’t because they had no head shot; we had no friends in common and there was nothing that suggested they were a photographer. I wasn’t being rude, just practical. I’m hitting 5000 and have to start over with a fan page. When somebody gets irritated like that I just miss the point.
If you’re a photographer, which about 99% of my Facebook friends are, then why wouldn’t you at least have a head shot in your profile? And, with that head shot, if you’re new to Facebook and looking for other photographers why wouldn’t you have a camera in your hands or at least be creative.
Relax, I’m not picking on anybody who just has a great head shot or a picture of your kids etc. The issue is being new and not putting the right information in your profile, head shot etc. When you don’t know somebody and they’ve got nothing in their profile then why exactly do they get upset when you don’t friend them? This definitely falls under my “life is too short” philosophy. Seriously, save feeling hurt, indignant and upset for the really great crisis moments in life!
From freelance writer Robert Brault I found a great quote for today:
Life is short, God’s way of encouraging a bit of focus.

Skip,
There’s always going to be people who don’t fully understand the value of networking, whether it’s via Facebook or in person. It’s as if they want something from you when they react negatively to being turned away. Why else would they be disappointed?
If a person’s first intention is to give first, then receive, I think they would rather spend their energy looking for the next person to help out, rather than waste your time with hate mail.
It’s sad when it happens, but it does happen. However, life’s too short, just like you said. Keep on keeping on!
