Summer School 2010

A little over a year ago, frustrated with the economy and spending a lot of time talking to photographers who were finding new ways to “fight the battle”, I started my own campaign: Just because the media says it’s going to be a bad year, doesn’t mean it has to be!
Well, here we are a [...]

A few weeks ago Jasmine Star interviewed me for her blog.  I couldn’t have been more flattered.   One of the questions she asked just seems so appropriate this time of year.  The question was, “How do you jump start a photography business?”  It’s a great question and deserves to be expanded.
We’ve got to start with the [...]

Drawn at random half an hour ago, the winner of a free registration to Skip’s Summer School is Ben Barrett.  Ben submitted his image on July 7.
Congrats to Ben and thank you to all of you who participated.

Here’s the last batch of entries into the “Working With What You’ve Got” Contest for Skip’s Summer School.  There have been some really great images submitted, all proving that if you look hard enough there’s great scenery around us everywhere we go!
We’ll be making the announcement at noon today of the winner for a full registration [...]

On August 8th we’re going to kick off the second annual Skip’s Summer School.   Here’s an update on the key events and who’s going…
This a very different format from most things you’ve attended.  There are no lines to stand in, waiting and wondering if you’ll get a seat.  Everyone gets a seat at a table, because [...]

The contest runs until midnight on July 7th!  Thanks everybody for being a part of this.  It’s a [...]

Sorry everybody, but I completely forgot to announce the winner of the essay contest yesterday morning.   A few months back we announced a contest giving away a free full registration to Skip’s Summer School and $500 toward travel expenses.
The winner is Steve Wright, Jr.   Steve works with the Disabled American Veterans Program.  He’s in real need of a mentor [...]

The request for images in yesterday’s blog has resulted in some great work, simply demonstrating you don’t have to be in Malibu or the Rockies to get some great back drops for your images!  The idea of the contest was a little half-baked, so here are the “rules”… we’ll keep it simple!
1) Contest ends on [...]

Every now and then I’ll be around a bunch of photographers and they’ll be looking at images of Joe Buissink’s, Jim Garner’s, Jerry G’s, Yervant’s or Bambi’s for example and somebody will always say, “Sure the images are great, look at where they are!  I’ve got nothing that looks like the ocean where I live!”
This is [...]

Losing the last couple of weeks and finding things don’t always work the way they should created some serious problems, but remember there’s no such thing as a problem, only challenges.   The bottom line is that last year’s Summer School was incredible and the response from the attendees gave us some great ideas to make some changes [...]
