Yesterday morning at 8:00 am I had my first Skype video call with Tomotaka in Kyoto. Thank God his English is better than my Japanese! We actually managed to converse for twenty minutes and when I hung up all I could do was smile the rest of the day!
Tomotaka is the son of Taka who [...]
This is one post definitely out of the archives. In getting ready to move I was doing the usual cleaning of career memorabilia and ran across the ad we did at Hasselblad in the early 90’s, selling Ansel Adams’ 1977 Cadillac for charity. A few years later we followed up when his camera gear landed [...]
Last week, Scott Bourne ran a post on GoingPro for U.S. photographers that became the most widely read article since we started the project! It was all about buying gear, a vital component for every professional photographer. The post has such great information, I decided more photographers needed to read it and republished it here today.
In the twleve [...]
One of the chapters Tony and I share in our careers is working together at Hasselblad. I hired Tony out of Brooks Institute to come to New Jersey as the first Dean of Education for Hasselblad University. I still consider talking Tony into giving up his view of the Ocean and mountain side in Santa Barbara for [...]
In 1987 I joined Hasselblad USA as president, following Roland Polhem, who had passed away months earlier. They were big shoes to fill. One of the projects Roland had agreed to fund was Dean Collins, who was going on the road with a thirty city tour. There were three partners in the tour, Sinar Bron, [...]
In yesterday’s blog I talked about David Ziser being part of the Skip’s Photo Network team starting next week. We’re going to work on more how to components with the new H2Series of photography tips.
Getting David involved in a project like this is a real kick. I’ve worked with David for twenty years, going back [...]
In 1987 I took over as president of Hasselblad USA. It was an incredible job and opened the door to the world of professional photography. One of the first projects on my plate was a new advertising campaign. I inherited a concept everyone in Sweden had pretty much signed off on. The truth is, I didn’t [...]
I’ve talked a lot about networking and how small an industry we really are. Usually it’s been in the form of advice to newbies about being careful of what they say when it’s negative, because you never know who’s close to who. This morning it’s just for the fun of it. What got me going [...]
Nothing particularly earth-shaking this morning, just thinking about what to write and looking at the wall behind my desk. It’s covered with twelve framed photographs, each one having some special meaning.
The prints on my wall range from a photograph of Virginia Adams (Ansel’s widow) handing me the keys to his 1977 Cadillac framed with his [...]
The industry lost one its biggest fans this past Thursday, Mike Bowen. The battle was fought on the fields of the cancer war with a brain tumor. The specifics aren’t important, but the history I had with Mike is the point I want to make this morning.
Our friendship goes back to days before the professional photographic [...]
